What Is the TOEFL Test?
The Test of English as a Foreign Language™ (TOEFL®) measures the ability of non-native speakers of English to use and understand English as it is spoken, written, and heard in college and university settings.
What are the benefits of gaining a TOEFL exam?
Most people take the TOEFL test as a prerequisite for admission into colleges and universities where English is used or required. There are 28 educational organisations that recognise TOEFL in the UAE alone and over 6.000 world wide. In addition, many government, licensing, and certification agencies and exchange and scholarship programs use TOEFL scores to evaluate the English proficiency of people for whom English is not their native language. As an internationally recognised qualification TOEFL provides potential employers with a greater understanding of the students ability in using English in both a business context and socially.
Tuition will take place in both the classroom setting and in our state of the art Language Laboratory and all students will have their own work book There will be no more than 15 students per class ensuring high quality of course delivery. Tutors will be available for individual support when needed.
What is involved in the course and test?
The course focuses on both the study of English and practical test preparation. It covers all four elements essential to effective communication: speaking, listening, reading, and writing. The test itself takes about 4 hours and is completed online at our testing centre.
Integrated tasks that cover more than one of these skills will ask test takers to
- Read, listen and then speak in response to a question
- Listen then speak in response to a question
- Read, listen and then write in response to a question
The speaking section includes six tasks and test takers wear headphones and speak into a microphone when they respond. Responses are digitally recorded and transmitted to our testing partners Online Scoring Network where human scorers rate them. The scorers are carefully monitored for accuracy, so test takers can be assured of quality.
The writing section requires test takers to write a response to material they have heard and read, and to compose and essay in support of an opinion. Human scorers also rate the responses to written tasks.
